Is Renting Faux Flowers Cheaper Than Using Fresh Flowers?

A Friendly, Honest Breakdown From Someone Who Works With Faux Every Day

One of the first questions couples ask me is: Is renting faux flowers actually cheaper than using fresh flowers? And honestly, it’s a great question, because the answer isn’t as simple as “yes” or “no.”

I’ve been in the faux floral rental world for almost two years now, specializing in large floral arches, lush centerpieces, and aisle arrangements. After working with hundreds of premium silk and real-touch blooms, and talking with countless couples, I can confidently walk you through what faux really costs compared to fresh and when each option makes the most sense.

Let’s dive in.

So… Are Faux Flowers Cheaper? Usually, Yes! And Here’s Why.

For the big statement pieces (like arches), faux flowers almost always come out cheaper. Here’s a real example from my business:

Our faux floral arches: $1,250–$1,350

Comparable fresh arch: anywhere from $2,000 at the absolute bare minimum to $4,000 and up. Why the huge difference? Fresh florists have to deal with:

Higher wholesale stem prices (fresh wholesalers in my area charge more per stem than our faux wholesalers)

Labor to assemble arrangements on-site

Refrigeration, delivery, and careful transport

Prep time to keep flowers hydrated and alive

Meanwhile, our arches are already designed and built, so setup is fast and delivery is much more straightforward. It’s no surprise that most clients who come to us already know faux will save them money, especially for larger arrangements.

But Faux Aren’t Always Cheaper. Here’s the Honest Truth

A big myth floating around is that faux flowers are automatically cheaper than fresh. But that’s not always the case.

There’s a huge difference between high-quality faux (like real-touch and premium silks), cheap, plastic-y faux you’d find in craft stores.

So while faux can be cheaper, it really depends on the quality of the faux flowers, the type of arrangement, the designer or rental company, and the scale of the event

And honestly, fresh flowers can be cheaper for very small DIY events. If someone grabs grocery-store blooms and makes a couple of simple arrangements at home, faux might cost more. It’s all about context.

Let’s Answer the Question Clearly: Is Renting Faux Cheaper?

In most cases, especially for large items like arches, aisle flowers, and statement centerpieces, absolutely, yes.

You’re skipping the cost of perishable flowers, seasonal markups, refrigeration and transportation, and wastage or fragile blooms

What you get instead is a lower price, a stress-free setup, flowers that never wilt, brown, or droop, a sustainable, reusable product, and still the option to add fresh flowers if you want them!

Final Thoughts

Faux floral rentals aren’t just the “budget option”, they’re a smart, stylish, photogenic choice that gives couples the look they want without the sticker shock.

Whether you’re avoiding the $4,000 fresh arch price tag or just want florals that stay perfect from morning to night, faux is a beautiful and budget-friendly alternative.

If you’re on the fence, I’m always happy to talk through your floral vision and help you compare your options!
